Obverse of this medal depicts a man, in a tri-corn hat and court costume looking at bank bills through a magnifying glass. On his left is a chest full of money. Around the image is translated, “The magnifying glass makes these seem close at hand, and a great amount; so also the pursuit of gold suffers itself to be blinded by folly.” Reverse displays four figures and a tree. One man has hung himself from the tree; the second man is throwing himself into the stream, third is close behind him, and the fourth is running away. Around the sad scene translates, “The game is now ended; the tables are turned, and the deception has wrought a fearful end. The whole world is a monument [i.e. the folly of the hour. 1720.”
