Value of 1760 Carlos III Guadalajara Episcopal Proclamation Medal

This medal proclaims Charles III as ruler over Guadalajara. Obverse depicts a bust of Charles III, facing to the right, wearing armor, draped cloth, and a wig tied back with a ribbon. The legend translates, “Charles III, King of Old Spain and Emperor of New Spain.” Reverse displays a shield at the left bearing instruments of the Catholic Church such as a crozier, the five wounds of St. Francis, and a Bishop’s hat. On the right rests a double-headed eagle wearing two crowns and carrying a key in its beak. On its check rests a heart with a cross and over its head sits the Papal tiara. The legend states, “The Bishop and Chapter of the Cathedral of the Holy Church in Guadalajara.”
