Benjamin Franklin is the central figure commemorated on this rare medal. Obverse features a bust of Franklin, facing to the left. The legend around his head states, “Benjamin Franklin Minister Plenipotentiary from the United States of America, Sept., 1783.” The reverse displays the Nine Muses working on a rocky hill outside a circular temple dedicated to science. The reverse legend reads, “From their labors will spring their glory.”
