This medal was struck for the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 1845. The obverse displays a bust of Benjamin Franklin. There is no legend for the obverse. The reverse displays a wreath surrounded a legend on the reverse. The legend reads, “FRANKLIN INSTITUTE OF THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA; AWARD” with space for an engraving below “Award.” There are various reverses that state different years. This is one of the smaller Franklin medals.
