This medal was struck for the Metropolitan Mechanics Institute. The obverse displays a bust of George Washington on the obverse facing to the left. There is no legend and the author’s signature reads, “F.N. MITCHELL F.” The reverse displays a scroll surrounded by the legend which reads, “PRESENTED BY THE METROPOLITAN MECHANICS INSTITUTE.” These medals may have been struck after their initial striking year of 1855.
