This medal commemorates the completion of the Pacific Railroad. The obverse displays a bust of President Grant facing to the right. The legend around his head reads, “PRESIDENCY OF THE U.S. GRANT, THE OCEANS UNITED BY RAILWAY MAY 10, 1869; BARBER.” The reverse displays a rural mountain landscape. In the center is a train. The legend in the scroll and the exergue reads, “EVERY MOUNTAIN SHALL BE MADE LOW; MEDAL SERIES OF THE U.S. MINT. J. POLLOCK DIRECTOR. W. BARBER. F.” This medal is very popular with collectors.
