This Token Came From – New York, New York

The obverse text on the token reads “New York P.T. Barnum Proprietor.” The reverse text on this token reads “American Museum New York, Phineas T. Barnum, This Immense Establishment Contains 500000 Curiosities, Including Birds, Beasts, Insects, Fossils, Minerals, Marine Specimens, Indian Implements, Suits of Armour, Statuary, Coins, Medals, Choice Paintings, Rare Engravings, Grand Cosmorama, Arial Garden, And Lecture Room, In Which Rich, Diversified, And Talented Entertainments, Are Given, Unsurpassed In The World Admission to the Whole, Only 25 Cents.” The obverse depicts a large portrait of the American Museum with a flag atop and some surrounding text. The reverse of the token shows a portrait of Phineas Barnum with two flags and a wreath at the top, and many lines of text below his bust.
