History, Information, and Value of 1848 Braided Hair Half Cent

Value of 1848 C-PO-9 Braided Hair Half Cent

W-1 | Original, Large Berries, Proof | C-PO-9, B-1a | Breen dies: 1-A. | Perhaps just 15 to 20 examples of this issue can be accounted for this 1848 Braided Hair Half Cent today. The obverse die was used on all three varieties of the date. Like the 1847 half cents, the date this year is large and seemingly crowds the field below Liberty’s portrait more so than in other years.

Value of 1848 C-SR-10 Braided Hair Half Cent

W-2 | First Restrike, Small Berries, Proof | C-SR-10, B-2 | Breen dies: 1-B. | Some 30 to 35 examples exist for this, the most “common” (a relative term) of the three varieties of the year. Breen considered this to be the most available variety of all the Proof half cents struck 1840 to 1849. Usual doubled NT at CENT on the reverse.
