History, Information, and Value of 1882-CC Gold Liberty Double Eagle

Value of 1882-CC $20 Double Eagle

The typical 1882-CC double eagle is sharply struck and, in high grades, also exhibits pleasing satin or frosty luster. A few semi-prooflike examples are known, although they are scarce. As an issue the 1882-CC is moderately abraded; many examples display noticeable handling marks, but others have relatively smooth surfaces. The first Carson City Mint double eagle struck since 1879, the 1882-CC is among the more frequently encountered issues from this coinage facility. Circulated examples through AU are seen on a fairly regular basis, although Mint State survivors are scarce and largely confined to the MS-60 to MS-62 grade range. At the top of the certified population for this issue is a pair of MS-63 entries at PCGS.
