History, Information, and Value of 1894 Morgan Dollar

Value of 1894-S Morgan Silver Dollar

The 1894-S Morgan Silver Dollar is an exceptional issue. Most are well-struck, lustrous and possess good eye appeal. Specimens in higher Mint State grades from the San Francisco mint will complement a high-quality collection and will add much worth to it. The 1894-S dollar typically has excellent luster, but some have die-polishing lines in the field, consisting of tiny raised lines that can make a coin appear as if it has been cleaned. No proofs were produced at this facility.
Easy to Find, Popular $1 Silver Coin: The date can be found in most circulated grades but an EF or AU would be ideal for a circulated Morgan set.
Not Likely to Find Very High Grades, But Regular UNCs are Popular: Available in MS-60 and finer with not much difficulty though the population thins somewhat at MS-64. MS-65 coins are a definite minority, and anything finer will cost a small fortune when and if found. We like a solid MS-64 coin for this date, one with good luster and a bold strike-fortunately for today’s collectors, many of this date answer that call.

The obverse text on the Morgan Dollar reads “Liberty; E Pluribus Unum; 1894.” The reverse text on the Liberty dollar reads “United States of America; In God We Trust; One Dollar; S.” The obverse of the silver one dollar coin has a bust of a female facing the left wearing a cap and small crown, with flowers tucked in her hair and stars surrounding the border. The reverse of the Morgan Dollar has an eagle in the center with its wings spread and a wreath surrounding.
