Apart from isolated softness of detail along the lower obverse and reverse borders on a few examples, the 1895-S double eagle almost always displays a sharp to full strike. Vibrant satin to frosty luster characterizes most Mint State examples, with survivors in most grades usually showing significant abrasions. A common issue, the 1895-S is plentiful in all grades from VF through MS-64. Gems Uncirculated coins are rare with the finest certified graded MS-66 at NGC.
