Value of 1902-S $20 Double Eagle

Bold to sharp striking detail is the norm for this issue, as is excellent luster in either a satin or frosty texture. A small number of semi or fully prooflike coins are also known. As with most Liberty Head double eagles, the 1902-S can be challenging to locate with relatively smooth surfaces. Plentiful in lower grades, the 1902-S double eagle is scarce in MS-64 and rare any finer. Even so, a few truly outstanding examples are known, including the phenomenal PCGS MS-67+ that hails from Bowers and Ruddys 1982 sale of The United States Gold Coin Collection (i.e., Eliasberg Collection).
