This medal was struck for the Maryland Institute. The obverse displays Justice holding a set of scales. In her right hand she holds a sword. The background consists of ships and storefronts. The legend around reads, “MARYLAND INSTITUTE FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE MECHANIC ARTS; INDUSTRY THE MEANS PLENTY THE RESULT; STABLER.” The reverse displays a wreath with the legend at the top reading, “AWARDED TO.” In the center is a blank space for engraving.
