History, Information, and Value of 1879 St. Louis Agricultural and Mechanical Association Awarded Medal
The St. Louis Agricultural and Mechanical Association medal was initially struck in 1873. The obverse displays a woman holding a scythe and cornucopia. The legend around reads, “ST. LOUIS AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL ASSOCIATION.” The reverse displays an eagle holding a wreath and pitchfork. The legend reads, “INDUSTRY BRINGS PLENTY; AWARDED TO” with space left for engraving a name.
