The National Academy of Design medal features a male bust on the obverse. The legend reads, “SUYDAM 1870; PAQUET.” The reverse displays a wreath surrounding a blank space for engraving. Around the outer edge of the wreath the legend reads, “NATIONAL ACADEMY OF DESIGN NEW YORK.” These medals were awarded beginning in 1871.
