History, Information, and Value of 1927 Peace Dollar
Value of 1927 Peace Silver Dollar
The typical 1927 Peace dollar from the Philadelphia Mint is of good quality with a strong strike and above average luster. Some coins exhibit an almost prooflike brightness. This issue is among the rarest in Uncirculated condition, especially in grades higher than MS-64. However, coins can be found priced within reach of most collectors at the MS-64 level; examples are more costly in MS-65 and higher grades. The 1927 Peace dollar is the first regular-issue date of the series with a mintage figure lower than one million pieces.
Circulated 1927 Silver Dollars Trade For Modest Premiums Over Silver: You will pay a premium for an EF or AU example of the date though there is an outside chance you may encounter an example in a mixed lot of circulated silver dollars _ that would be great fortune indeed. Look for a circulated specimen that is free of unsightly marks and offers some retained luster. Eye appeal counts, even for circulated coins.
High Grade 1927 $1 Coins Are Tough: The key date 1927 Peace dollar is available in most Mint State grades, but the farther up the grading scale you travel, the more elusive the date becomes. MS-63 and MS-64 are attractive grades for most collectors though some go for MS-65. Above that the supply of 1927 Peace dollars is extremely limited. No matter the grade you settle on, look for bold luster and design details that are crisp and you’ll have the perfect example for your collection.
The obverse text on the Peace Dollar reads “Liberty; In God We Trvst (Trust); 1927.” The reverse text on the silver dollar reads “United States of America; E Pluribus Unum; One Dollar; Peace.” The obverse of the coin has a bust of a female facing the left with a pointed crown and flowing hair. The reverse of the Peace Dollar has an eagle sitting on a rock in the center with rays in the background.
