History, Information, and Value of 1893-CC Gold Liberty Double Eagle

Value of 1893-CC $20 Double Eagle

Perhaps the best produced Carson City Mint double eagle, the 1893-CC double eagle is typically encountered with a sharp strike that, in Mint State grades, is accompanied by pleasing luster in a satin, frosty or, less frequently, semi-prooflike finish. The surfaces are invariably abraded, usually moderately to heavily so. The popular 1893-CC is the final double eagle issue from the Carson City Mint. While not a major rarity, the 1893-CC is scarce relative to many other Carson City Mint twenties. Even so, and thanks to repatriations from overseas hoards, the 1893-CC is generally obtainable in circulated grades through AU. Uncirculated coins in MS-60, MS-61 and MS-62 should also prove fairly easy to locate. Beginning at the MS-63 level this issue becomes rare. Only a single coins has been certified finer, an MS-64 graded by NGC.
