History, Information, and Value of 1907-D Gold Liberty Double Eagle

Value of 1907-D $20 Double Eagle

Most examples of this issue are well struck, although some are a bit softly defined in and around the centers on both sides. Luster is strong on the 1907-D double eagle with satiny, frosty and even a few prooflike coins known. It is difficult to locate a survivor with relatively smooth surfaces as the typical example is liberally abraded. The 1907-D is more common than the 1906-D and can be located with ease in grades up to and including MS-64. Gems in MS-65 are scarce, although this is one of the easier Type 3 Liberty Head double eagles to locate in this grade. There are even a few superb 1907-D double eagles that have been certified MS-66 or MS-67 by PCGS and NGC, but all are rare. The former service has also certified a unique example of this issue in Proof-62.
