Examples are lustrous and generally of a satin texture. Most Mint State examples are also sharply struck. It can be difficult to locate a coin with overall smooth surfaces as most survivors are noticeably abraded.
The 1910-D St. Gaudens is plentiful in grades through MS-65, although it is scarce to rare any finer. Both PCGS and NGC report two grading events in MS-67, the finest certified for this issue.
