History, Information, and Value of 1935-S Peace Dollar

Value of 1935 San Francisco Mint Peace Silver Dollar

This last Peace dollar issue from the San Francisco Mint was one of the better quality coins of the series. Most 1935-S Peace dollars were very well struck, especially compared to the weak strikes of prior issues. Many coins were stored rather than released into circulation. Most Mint State examples are well struck with a satiny luster.
1935-S $1s Coins Can Be Scarce As High Non-Uncs: Yet another date that seldom shows up in EF or AU anywhere but in dealers’ stock at coin shows. A reminder: if you collect circulated Peace dollars, they don’t have to be overly marked or discolored _ quality can be found at all grade levels.
High Grade 1935-S Peace Dollars Are High Quality For The SF Mint: Always available in MS-60 to MS-65, and even MS-66 coins can be located without too much difficulty. MS-65 seems to be an optimum grade offering quality and value. Look for a sharp strike and lively luster and make sure are no marks on Liberty’s cheek or the eagle’s breast.

The obverse text on the Peace Dollar reads “Liberty; In God We Trvst (Trust); 1935.” The reverse text on the silver dollar reads “United States of America; E Pluribus Unum; One Dollar; Peace; S.” The obverse of the coin has a bust of a female facing the left with a pointed crown and flowing hair. The reverse of the Peace Dollar has an eagle sitting on a rock in the center with rays in the background.
