This medal honors the centennial anniversary of the town of Charleston, South Carolina. The obverse displays a woman sitting while holding a liberty cap. The background consists of a harbor scene. The legend around the scene reads, “AEDES MORES JURAQUE CURAT. CIVITATIS REGIMINE DONATA A.D. 1783; CAROLOPOLIS CONDITA A.D. 1670 BARBER.” The reverse displays an outer circle of stars surrounding an inner wreath. The legend in the center reads, “CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF THE INCORPORATION OF THE CITY OF CHARLESTON SOUTH CAROLINA 18TH AUGUST 1883.”
