This medal honors the Bicentennial anniversary of the settling of Pennsylvania. The obverse displays a forward facing bust of William Penn. The legend around the image reads, “MINT OF THE UNITED STATES PHILADELPHIA; 1682 1882.” The reverse lacks an image but instead reads, “BICENTENNIAL OF PENNSYLVANIA OCTOBER 24, 1882; OFFICERS OF U.S. MINT A. LOUDON SNOWDEN SUPERINTENDENT JACOB B. ECKFELDT ASSAYER JAMES C. BOTH MELTER AND REFINER OLIVER C. BOSBYSHELL COINER CHAS. E. BARBER ENGRAVER.” An unknown number of these medals were struck.
