History, Information, and Value of 1906-D Gold Liberty Double Eagle

Value of 1906-D $20 Double Eagle

The 1906-D double eagle is typically encountered with a sharp strike and, in high grades, pleasing satin or frosty luster. Most examples are extensively abraded. A popular issue with collectors, the 1906-D is the first of only two Denver Mint Liberty Head double eagles. Scarce relative to other Type 3 Liberty Head double eagles of its era, the 1906-D is still obtainable with ease in grades through MS-63. It is very scarce in MS-64, however, and Gems are rare. The top certified coins are a pair of grading events in MS-66.
