History, Information, and Value of 1912 St. Gaudens $20 Gold

Value of 1912 St. Gaudens $20 Gold

The typical 1912 is boldly but seldom sharply struck, with pleasing luster in either a frosty or, less often, satin texture. Most Mint State examples are liberally abraded from having been shipped overseas and later repatriated after years spent in foreign bank vaults.
The 1912 St. Gaudens is readily obtainable in grades up to and including MS-63. MS-64 coins are scarce, although locating one should prove to be fairly easy for the persistent buyer. The 1912 is rare in MS-65 and very rare in higher grades. The finest examples certified are at the MS-66+ level. Proofs of this date were prepared with a Sand Blast finish and are very rare; only 40 to 55 coins are extant at all levels of preservation.
