This sharply struck, lustrous double eagle tends to be attractive in Mint State as long as the buyer avoids more heavily abraded examples in lower grades. The finish is typically frosty and finely granular.
The 1911-S St. Gaudens is plentiful in MS-60 to MS-64 and even in MS-65 can only be described as moderately scarce. In higher grades the 1911-S is rare, the finest certified being a single coin graded MS-67 by PCGS.
