The 1927 St. Gaudens is almost always encountered with a sharp strike and attractive mint luster. With a large number of Gem Mint State coins extant, this is one of the easiest Saint-Gaudens double eagles to locate with minimally abraded surfaces and strong eye appeal.
Exported in quantity at the time of issue with many examples returning to the United States in later decades, the 1927 is one of the most common issues of this type. Uncirculated coins abound in the market and are readily obtainable through MS-66. Superb Gems remains rare with the finest certified graded MS-67+ by PCGS.
