<h3Value of 1882 Great Seal Centennial Medal

This large medal was created to celebrate the centennial of the United States Great Seal. Lieutenant C. H. Totten, an expert on the Great Seal, wrote to the Mint and requested this medal be struck. The obverse displays the seal, which features an eagle with wings outstretched. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in each set of talons and in his mouth is a ribbon with “E PLURIBUS UNUM; BARBER.” The reverse displays a pyramid topped with the All-Seeing Eye. The legend translates, “GOD FAVORED OUR UNDERTAKINGS; A NEW ORDER OF THE AGES. 1776, 1782, 1882.”
