The obverse text on this So-Called Dollar reads The centennial year of our National Independence 1876 and the reverse text is Battle of Sullivan’s Island June 28 1776 2 So. Carolina. The front side of the coin shows George Washington in the center facing the right with 34 stars surrounding his head and text to the outside border, date below. The backside of the coin depicts a circle and rays coming from the center with the date inside, text surrounding the circle and rays with an oak wreath to the outer edge.
