The obverse text on this So-Called Dollar reads M.H. de Young, California Midwinter International Exposition 1894 and the reverse text is Souvenir of San Francisco California 1894. The front side of the coin shows a bust facing the left of M. H. de Young, text arching over his head and under his neck, more text appearing in the large border surrounding the image. The backside of the coin depicts the state seal in the center with a woman seated at a throne with her hand on the oval seal, a bear beside her and rays coming from behind the mountains in the background, a miner in the foreground.
