The obverse text on this So-Called Dollar reads Dr. E.K. Kane and the reverse text is Born in Phila. PA Feb. 3, 1822 Commander of the Grinnell Artic Expedition May 30, 1853 Died Feb. 14, 1857. The front side of the coin shows a bust of Dr. Kane facing the right with longer hair and a mustache, nude bust. The backside of the coin depicts several lines of descriptive text in the center with dates towards the bottom of the birth and death.
