The obverse text on this So-Called Dollar reads Genoa 1447 Palos 1492 San Salvador 1492 Chicago 1893 and the reverse text is 1893 Commemorating Maryland’s Participation in the World’s Columbian Exposition. The front side of the coin shows a bust in the center whose head is laid over the globe, with an eagle above and a banner with text below. The backside of the coin depicts six birds at the top, the state seal in the center, all surrounded by birds and turtles in the Reeded grasses.
