The obverse text on this So-Called Dollar reads These United colonies are and of right ought to be, free and independent states, 1776 and the reverse text is By authority of the Congress of the United States in Commemoration of the Hundredth anniversary of American Independence 1876. The front side of the coin shows a sword-wielding female figure in the center with light drapery flowing off of her shoulder, lifting her hand towards the Heavens and the stars and rays from above, all surrounding by the date and the circular text. The backside of the coin depicts 8 lines of text in the center with a leave wreath and text surrounding.
