This medal was struck for the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 1845. The obverse displays a bust of Benjamin Franklin. The legend reads, “ELLIOTT CRESSON MEDAL FOUNDED 1848; BARBER.” The reverse displays a wreath surrounded a legend on the reverse. The legend reads, “AWARDED BY THE FRANKLIN INSTITUTE OF THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA” with space for an engraving below “Award.” There are various reverses that state different years. This is one of the smaller Franklin medals.
