W-1 | Original, Large Berries, Proof | C-PO-3, B -1 | Breen dies: 1-A. | Struck for inclusion in Proof sets of the year and easily among the scarcest of the original Proof half cents of the 1840 to 1849 decade. Value of 1842 C-SR-4 Braided Hair Half Cent
W-2 | First Restrike, Small Berries, Proof | C-SR-4, B-2 | Breen dies: 1-B. | Some 15 to 20 examples of W-2 are thought to exist and some examples are found with high wire rims. Slight doubling at NT of CENT and wreath ribbon.
Value of 1842 C-SR-19 Braided Hair Half Cent
W-3 | Second Restrike, Small Berries, Proof | C-SR-19, B-3 | Breen dies: 1-C. | Perhaps 20 to 25 examples are extant in all states of preservation. As with the 1841 Second Restrike variety (W-3), some examples are known on heavy 96.1 grain planchets. Diagonal die lines above RICA on the reverse.
