This is a sharply struck, lustrous issue with the moderately to heavily abraded surfaces typical most Liberty Head double eagles. The common date 1895 double eagle is readily obtainable in both circulated and Mint State grades up to and including MS-64, although most coins in the latter category are in MS-61 to MS-63. Gems are rare with the finest certified a solitary MS-65+ at NGC. Like most Proof Liberty Head double eagles, the 1895 is very rare with an estimated population of just 20 to 25 survivors.
