This is a well-produced issue, the typical example is boldly to sharply defined with excellent luster on high grade survivors. Most examples are at least moderately abraded, although persistence will be rewarded with a relatively smooth piece. After only the 1904, the 1900 is the most plentiful Liberty Head double eagle. Examples are very common in grades through MS-64 and Gems in MS-65, while relatively scarce, are plentiful enough that they appear in the market on a fairly regular basis. There are few coins graded finer, however, all of which have been certified MS-65+ or MS-66 by PCGS and NGC. In Proof format the 1900 double eagle is among the more readily obtainable Liberty Head double eagles, with 50 to 75 examples thought to exist.
