Apart from minor softness to the D mintmark, most high grade 1910-D Indian Half Eagles exhibit uniformly bold definition to both sides. Luster is typically subdued, however, and only the handful of high grade survivors in Gem Mint State display an impressive satin texture. Almost all known examples are at least lightly abraded, and many are quite heavily marked.

Despite a relatively small mintage, the 1910-D is not that difficult to locate in circulated grades such as VF and EF. Thanks to the discovery of several hoards in foreign banks, especially one particularly notable find in Europe in 1979, the 1910-D is only moderately scarce in lower Mint State grades through MS-63. Most of the hoard coins discovered over the years display abraded, lackluster (pun intended!) surfaces, with the result that this issue remains rare in MS-64 and very rare any finer. A few exceptional 1910 Denver Mint half eagles are known, nonetheless, including a few pieces that have been certified MS-67 by PCGS and NGC.
