As is the case with a lot of coin series, the demand for Sacagawea coins had waned significantly between 2000 and 2008. The San Francisco mint only produced 2,169,561 2008-S proof coins. This is the lowest mintage for the series. Some of these coins sell for as much as $100 today if they are graded as 70s by a third party.
The reverse, also called the tails or back, of the 2008-S Sacagawea gold dollar coin shows an eagle in flight with 17 stars in the background. The front, also called the heads or obverse, of the coin has the young woman named Sacagawea with her baby on her back.
