The 2016 $25 gold coin is pretty much just valued for its bullion. All that means is that the value of the coin will change based on the current value of gold. This is a half ounce coin. So you can divide the current price of gold by two to get the coin’s intrinsic value. Collectors refer to these as AGE or American Gold Eagles. The United States Mint issues these coins every year. The only change is just the year; all the other design elements are the same year to year. You can tell if you have a proof coin or regular issue by looking for a mintmark under the year. Proof coins have a mint mark, regular issues do not. The total mintage for each type of coin will not be released until 2017 when production ends.
