Value of Native American Dollars (2009-Present)
After 8 years of the Sacagawea Dollars, the United States Mint began to try new designs. Thus, came the Native American Dollar Coins. One thing that you can note about the new designs is that there is no longer a date or a mint mark visible on the dollar. Instead, the date and mint mark appear on the edge. This is called edge lettering. A lot of people think that this is a mistake. It would be more of a mistake if there were no letters on the edge. Those types of errors can happen, and are valuable. However, please be aware that anyone with a machine shop can remove the rim of a coin. So if you see this, just be aware that it could be an altered coin. Outside of errors, there is really nothing to make these Native American Dollars especially valuable. Unlike the few varieties that the Sacagawea Dollar had (prior to 2009), the Native American series has no varieties. While common in the collector community, you don’t really see a lot of these coins in day to day commerce. So they may seem exotic and rare at a glance, but they have no gold or other precious metals, and are easily attainable online for minimal prices.
If you are looking to sell these coins, online buying/selling platforms may be your best option. Please only contact us about a Native American Dollar if there is something noticeably wrong with the coin, AKA an error. Enjoy the guide and good luck with your collecting endeavors.
