History, Information, and Value of 1868 Monnier Treatment of Copper Medal
These bronze medals commemorated the first copper produced in Colorado. An unknown number of medals still exist today. The obverse displays a scene of the mining facilities. A tall chimney blows smoke in the center. Below the scene are a crossed pick and axe. The legend reads, “MONNIER METALLURGIC TREATMENT OF SULPHRETS.” The reverse reads, “THE MONNIER METALLURGICAL COMPANY OF COLORADO; STRUCK FROM THE FIRST COPPER PRODUCED IN COLORADO 1866.” There is no reverse image.
