W-1 | Original, Large Berries, Proof | C-PO-6, B-1a | Breen dies: 1-A. | 1845 Braided Hair Half Cent W-1, an original Proof variety of the date, exists to the tune of some 16 to 20 pieces and is considered among the rarest of the original issues of 1840 to 1849, though the same could be said for just about any date in the decade. This obverse die was used for the First and Second Restrikes of the date as well.
