History, Information, and Value of 1875-CC Gold Liberty Double Eagle

Value of 1875-CC $20 Double Eagle

Striking quality for the 1875-CC double eagle varies, with some examples boldly, if not sharply defined throughout and others soft over the high points of Liberty’s hair, the obverse stars, and/or at the borders on both sides. The typical example is extensively abraded from commercial use. Luster quality is above average, however, with most high grade pieces fully frosted. A few prooflike pieces are known, although they are rare. The 1875-CC rivals the 1876-CC as the most available Type 2 Liberty Head double eagle from the Carson City Mint. Examples are obtainable with relative ease in all grades from VF through MS-62, although in Mint State this issue is scarce. The 1875-CC is rare in MS-63 and is virtually unknown any finer.
