Value of 1909 St. Gaudens $20 Gold

This issue is invariably well struck with sharp to full detail throughout the design. Most examples are lustrous with either a satin or frosty texture, and are usually encountered with significant surface abrasions.
Although scarcer than the 1909/8, the 1909 St. Gaudens normal date is obtainable with patience in grades through MS-64. Gems are rare and this issue is unknown any finer than MS-66 at PCGS or NGC. Proofs of this date are very rare with no more than 40 or 45 specimens known, most of which are of the Satin Finish type.
