Most 1914-D St. Gaudens double eagles are sharply struck with excellent frosty luster. While many Uncirculated survivors are noticeably abraded, this is one of the easier early date Saint-Gaudens double eagles to locate with a relatively smooth appearance.
This is one of the more common double eagles of its era with coins readily obtainable in grades through MS-65. The 1914-D is scarce in MS-66, although there are enough examples certified at that level that market appearances are fairly regular. A handful of Superb Gems in MS-67 are the highest graded at PCGS and NGC.
