This plentiful issue was produced to a high standard of quality. The 1928 St. Gaudens is typically offered with a sharp strike, bountiful mint luster and, in the finer Mint State grades, minimally abraded surfaces.
Along with the 1924, the 1928 is the most common Saint-Gaudens double eagle. Uncirculated coins abound in the market and are readily obtainable in all grades through MS-66. The 1928 also has one of the highest certified populations for the type in MS-67. The finest certified examples are graded MS-67+ at PCGS and NGC.
