The year 2000 marks the first time that the San Francisco mint produced any Sacagawea coins. All the coins minted are proofs. The total production of just over four million is certainly not a small number, and it actually marks the largest proof mintage for any year for the Sacagawea series.
The reverse, also called the tails or back, of the 2000-S Sacagawea gold dollar coin shows an eagle in flight with 17 stars in the background. The front, also called the heads or obverse, of the coin has the young woman named Sacagawea with her baby on her back.
