History, Information, and Value of 1889-CC Gold Liberty Double Eagle

Value of 1889-CC $20 Double Eagle

While most 1889-CC double eagles are well struck in the centers, peripheral detail is often incomplete, especially on the obverse. Luster tends to be average, at best, with a satin to slightly subdued finish. As with all Carson City Mint double eagles, the 1889-CC is very difficult to locate with minimally abraded surfaces. The first double eagle struck in this coinage facility since 1885, the 1889-CC is relatively obtainable in circulated grades such as EF and AU, but scarce to rare in Mint State. Most Uncirculated coins grade no finer than MS-62, although PCGS has certified a significant condition rarity at the MS-64 level.
