The Annual Assay Medal for 1934 displays the original and current Mint buildings. The obverse image of the four-story building was based off a painting by Edwin Lamasure at a time when interest in the early history of the Mint was at its peak. The legend on the obverse states, “The first Mint erected 1792 and the first public building authorized by the Congress of the United States. Mint of the United States Annual Assay 1934.” The reverse displays the front of the United States Mint building in Philadelphia. The legend reads, “Mint of the United States Philadelphia PA” and in the exergue, “Annual Assay 1934”.
