Value of 1922 St. Gaudens $20 Gold

While the typical 1922 St. Gaudens double eagle is boldly to sharply struck throughout, there are a few exceptions that exhibit isolated softness of detail along the lower left obverse border. The 1922 usually displays excellent luster, and Mint State examples range from heavily abraded in lower grades to overall smooth at the Gem Uncirculated level.
The 1922 is one of several double eagles from the Roaring Twenties that was exported in quantity, the coins remaining overseas until after World War Two. With many examples having since been repatriated, this date is plentiful in Uncirculated grades through MS-65. In MS-66 the 1922 is rare, and it is unknown any finer at either PCGS or NGC.
